Joy-The Movement

My father in law and I have been talking about the events of this past week and he said to me yesterday that we all need “joy and caring injected into our lives”. I know he is right. We all need that more than anything else. This world can easily wear us down and whittle away the joy that is within us simply by all the negative input we are bombarded with on a daily basis. It can be a draining experience if it comes at us in steady unrelenting streams.

So, I am wondering, what if we reversed it? What if instead of steady streams of negative input that put stress on each of us, we actively chose to find ways to bring joy and happiness to others and to ourselves. What if we countered all that negative input we have been receiving and bombarded it with actions that bring us joy and happiness?  What if we really focused on bringing each other happiness and joy by listening to each other, spending time with each other, and doing things that make the lives of others a little easier.

It really wouldn’t take much. It would mean taking time to sit down and listen to each other. It could be a simple as showing someone you care by spending time with them, opening doors, letting them go ahead in the checkout line, helping older people with household chores, cooking a dinner for a friend or a family member, helping someone who doesn’t have much or simply by sharing a smile with someone without one.

I think it would be great to start a movement like this where we shut off the news and focus on helping and building each other up instead of tearing each other down. It’s time to find the JOY!
